Description
There are two varieties of the Naupaka flower, one grows near the sea and is called Naupaka Kahakai, the other grows in the mountains and is called Naupaka Kuahiwi. Each bears what appears to be half of a blossom and when placed together, they form a perfect flower. It is said that the mythological Naupaka lovers who were separated can be reunited when the flowers are joined together after they have been picked.
